WiRE

A project to change the narrative on femenine antitotalitarian resistance in Europe.

Reshaping the narratives on femenine resistance in Europe

When analysing collective narratives and imaginaries on antitotalitarian resistances in Europe, a question that arises is the scarce attention put on the role of women. With some exceptions, women are usually relegated to a secondary and subsidiary role in resistance movements. With this idea, the WiRE project, funded by the European Union, wants to focus the role of women—both as agents and victims—to the centre of current historic narrations on antitotalitarian resistance in Europe to help remodel historic memory and its associated values.

During two years, the project will organise activities destined to establish a link between academic knowledge on the role of women in resistance movements and the promotion of historic conscience among citizens. Along with the students taking part in the activities from the project, women participating in different European resistance movements will be identified, thus restoring their memories and giving them public acknowledgement.

Through the use of innovative methodologies, such as the generation of digital tools, unconventional ways of spreading knowledge into a broader community, and the academic verification of historic, educational, and technical aspects, WiRE will contribute to the academic and public knowledge of history and the memory of the participation of women in antitotalitarian resistance.
