Reuse of crystal bottles in the South-European wine sector
The project studies the viability of a sustainable system of collection, cleaning, and reuse of crystal bottles in the Catalan wine sector.
The project involved consumers, cellars, bars, restaurants, distribution companies, and shops to make a pilot test for the reusing of wine bottles. The pilot test considered all the process of bottles, from the labelling, cleaning, market distribution, and recollecting of empty bottles through the same cellars, waste plants, restaurants, and shops involved to demonstrate its viability and environmental, social, and economic viability.
Participants
The project is led by the UAB Research Park and has had the participation of the UAB spinoff Inèdit, the Catalan Waste Treatment Agency, the Catalan Foundation for Waste Prevention and Responsible Consumption, the cleaning plant Infinity, and different Catalan cellars such as the Cooperativa Falset Marçà and Cellers Torres.

The UAB Research Park has coordinated the project and its communications.

Funding
The project has a total budget of 991.309€, 60% of which comes from the LIFE Program, created by the European Union.
