The UAB has obtained €3 million to develop public-private partnership projects

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) has awarded grants to 13 public-private partnership projects (PCPP) involving UAB research staff in areas such as health, food, sustainability, advanced materials and industrial digitalisation, through the State Research Agency (AEI).

The call for Public-Private Partnership Projects, promoted by the State Research Agency, aims to promote market transfer projects through public-private consortia between research centres, universities and companies.

The final decision on the 2024 call for proposals has recently been published, with 13 projects involving UAB research groups being selected. This represents an investment in R&D&I of €13.4 million. The University has received a total of €3 million to develop these projects in collaboration with the leading companies, making it the top Catalan university in terms of projects awarded.

The selected projects address significant social and economic challenges, including the development of new biomedical devices for diagnosing and treating diseases, intelligent sensor and structural monitoring systems, technologies for achieving food and energy sustainability, and innovative bioproduction and advanced materials processes. Researchers from several UAB departments are participating, including the departments of Chemistry, Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, Microelectronics and Electronic Systems, Electronic Engineering, Animal and Food Science, Animal Health and Anatomy, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This cross-disciplinary collaboration demonstrates the UAB's scientific and interdisciplinary strength, as well as its ability to drive innovation in key sectors such as biomedicine, agri-food, green industry, and digitalisation.

'This resolution represents an opportunity to stimulate new lines of applied research and consolidate cooperation between universities and businesses, thereby promoting the transfer of results to society. The projects contribute to generating lasting synergies and reinforce the UAB's role as a key player in responsible innovation and impact-oriented research, beyond financial support," says Martín Buffa, head of the University-Business Collaboration Unit at the UAB Research Park.
