Judit Camargo, CEO of Roka Furadada, finalist for the EIC European Prize for Women Innovators 2026
The awards ceremony, which celebrates the work and achievements of women entrepreneurs, was held last week at the European Innovation Council Summit in Brussels.
Roka Furadada, a company based in Research Module B of the UAB Research Park, is on a stellar roll. A few months ago we highlighted how they closed a €2.3 million funding round; now the company, focused on applied chemistry for health and sustainability, is back in the news for a much more personal reason. And it is that Judit Camargo Sanromà, founder and director of Roka Furadada, has been one of the women honoured at the latest edition of the EIC European Prize for Women Innovators.
The European Prize for Women Innovators recognises, celebrates and rewards women entrepreneurs who have achieved a tangible impact in the fight against climate change, the health sector and the digital economy. In total, the achievements of nine women are celebrated, divided into three categories, with one winner and two finalists.
It is in the main category, Woman Innovators, that Camargo has secured third place thanks to the new generation of smart sunscreens, which tackle the rise in skin cancer through organic cosmetic ingredients that provide effective UV protection while minimising potential damage to marine ecosystems. Her third-place position entitles her to a cash prize of €50,000.
Camargo has centred her career at the intersection of science and entrepreneurship, founding Roka Furadada in 2019 after an exceptional career. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, two Master's degrees in Applied Clinical Research in Health Sciences and in Research Methodology in Public Health, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Research Methodology and Public Health. Under her leadership, Roka Furadada has gone from a concept to a company of 22 people with a growing international presence, a portfolio of nine patent families and an innovative project that has already been adopted by major global cosmetic brands.
