The Innovation Day de Molins de Rei connects businesses looking students who can solve their challenges

It is the first edition of this supramunicipal project adressed to both companies and Professional Training centres of the Low Valley of the Baix Llobregat.

”Innovation Day: Solucions de talent” is an initiative promoted by the Molins de Rei town hall and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with the support of the Diputació de Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Citilab, and the town and city halls of Cervelló, Cobera de Llobregat, El Papiol, La Palma de Cervelló, Pallejà, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, and Vallirana. Their goal is to put technology to the service of the university community to give an answer, thanks to open innovation and collaboration, to the new context, needs, and challenges of the companies.

The main target of the program is to connect businesses looking for innovative answers to their business challenges from the fields of technology 4.0 and the circular economy. Thus, university students and students of higher and intermediate levels from technological sectors will be able to provide solutions to these challenges.

During this first edition, 7 companies have taken part in the program: Carpel Min and AdecGlobal, from Cervelló; Grupo Adtel and Rohu, from Corbera de Llobregat; Menshen Iber, Qksol, and Instavi from Pallejà. As for the student body, students from the technological field of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and from vocational training at the Institut Bernat el Ferrer in Molins de Rei, the Institut Gabriela Mistral in Sant Vicenç dels Horts, and the Institut Can Margarit in Corbera de Llobregat took part.

Award-winning teams

Thus, after a development and prototyping process that has lasted over two months, promoted by the UAB Research Park, last Friday, December 13th, the Pitch Day took place at the Foment Cultural i Artístic. The participant students have presented their answers to the challenges, and the jury has decided the winners in the three categories: Grau Mitjà, Grau Superior, and Universitats, which have been awarded 1.500€, 2.500€, and 3.500€ respectively.

The award-winning team of the Universitats category is Projecte ConnectTech, by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. This is a solution to the challenge set by the company Menshen Iber: an implementation of a data capture system with artificial intelligence processing, filtering of information via Big Data, and selection of all the information gathered from the useful information.

In the Higher Degree and Specialisation course category, the award winners came from the Higher Degree in Web Applications Development at the Institut Gabriela Mistral. They have solved the challenge set by the company ADTEL: improvement of energy efficiency in all areas of the company.

Finally, in the Intermediate category, the award-winning team was from the Microcomputer and Network Systems Course at the Institut Can Margarit in Corbera de Llobregat, which provided a solution to the challenge posed by the company Carpel Min: the design of a product incorporating plastronic technology.
