Aerofybers wins the Rotary Grant in Entrepreneurship for a cellulose-based aerogel maker technology.
The company, located at the UAB Research Park, has developed and patented a new technology to produce cellulose-based aerogels, which are different from existing ones in being more absorbent and sustainable.
Aerofybers Technologies, created by researchers Albert Calleja and Isaac Benito, has won the 10th edition of the Rotary Grant “Impulso al Emprendimiento Joven.” The company has created a technology that allows the production of renewable, sustainable, and biodegradable aerogels. This new technology can be applied to many fields, such as isothermic and food packaging, consumers’ health, biomedics, cosmetics, construction (as insulation), and bioremediation (as a chemical sorbent).
The award was presented during Cerdanyola Empresarial’s Cerdanyola Forum and had three finalists, two of whom are companies at the UAB Research Park network. On one hand, the UAB spin-off Inari, created by researchers Diana Marré, Bruna Álvarez, and Estel Malgosa, wants to apply scientific knowledge in the fields of reproductive processes and parenting of children and adolescents through services of orientation, accompaniment, specialised training on health and education, and consulting and assessing.
And, on the other hand, EnMent Coop, from Oriol Barat and Sergi Novell and birthed at the “Valida la teva Recerca” programme from the UAB Research Park, has the goal of democratising and opening access to psychology services and other psychosocial services through a web and app where psychology professionals will be in contact, offering their services to disfavorable collectives at a reduced rate. This will be made possible through the construction of a network formed by the sponsorship of private companies in collaboration with administrations and social institutions.
