Synergies for Participatory Research: Weaving Networks between the Social Economy and Academia

The collaboration between the social economy and research is key to tackling the most urgent challenges facing our society, from the ecological transition to social justice. While social economy organisations contribute local knowledge, research institutions bring the rigour of the scientific method to structure and enhance all this experience and expertise.

RISE

With the ‘Synergies for Innovation: Weaving Networks between the Social Economy and Research’ day, RISE aims to create a space where both worlds meet on an equal footing. Drawing on the European RISE project, it will explore how to forge symbiotic alliances: where academic rigour and social reality unite to generate real, transformative impact.

The aim is to present the results of RISE and to open an honest debate on how to build alliances in participatory research that are fair and fruitful. The event is designed to be a genuine exchange space where collaborations can be realised; for this reason, we have reserved part of the day exclusively for creating synergies. We want this meeting to be the practical starting point for new consortia and concrete projects. We encourage both sectors to take part and to leave with new alliances under their arms. Let's make it happen!

About the RISE project

RISE is a European project that fosters a new relationship between academia and the social economy, empowering organisations to co-lead research projects and promote science done with and for the community.

The project combines scientific rigour with local knowledge, facilitating the participation of the social sector on an equal footing with academia.

  • Key contributions:
    • Training and tools to understand and participate in research processes
    • Co-leadership to move from being a research subject to an active agent
    • A bridge between sectors to connect academia and social reality
  • Key results:
    • Identification of barriers in collaborative research
    • Development of a bespoke training pathway
    • Validation of the methodology with over 70 European organisations
